Theraplay®

Theraplay® was first introduced in America in the 1960’s and it is a therapeutic intervention that focuses on strengthening the bond between children and their parents (or caregivers). Theraplay® is a play based intervention that is a highly effective treatment intervention for traumatised children. It teaches parents/carers how to recognise triggers to behaviour, identification of cues from the child and responses from the parent, it addresses issues of children regulating thier behaviour and this intervention directly supports the parents/caregivers in creating change.

 

Theraplay®  is active, interpersonal, and fun. It focuses on strengthening the parent-child relationship, it addresses issues of the ‘here and now’; not just what happened in the past and it is appropriate for all ages– infancy through to adolescence.
